Dave Eichhorn
Director
Dave Eichhorn is a multiple award-winning filmmaker, editor, sound editor & re-recording mixer with more than 30 years in the business and over 300 credits on a huge assortment of Hollywood films and television shows. To date he's earned 3 Primetime Emmys, 12 Emmy nominations, 5 MPSE Golden Reel awards, 15 Golden Reel nominations, and an RIAA Gold Record.
His resume includes projects for Disney, Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Universal, FOX, CBS, NBC, FX Network, Showtime and Hallmark, to name a few, and his rather unusual but comprehensive skillset has landed him work with a who's who list of top-name Hollywood producers & directors, including Mikhail Solomon, Russell Mulcahy, Jon Voight, Ernest Dickerson, Betty Thomas, Jon Turtletaub, Keenan Ivory Wayans and Charles Carner. He has also worked on dozens of commercials for companies like Facebook, Subaru and Nike.
As a boy growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Dave was consistently fascinated with photography, movies, and sound recording -- and he admittedly spent a lot of what he calls "nerdy alone time" creating audio skits and short films. At the age of 21 - on the advice of his OSU film school professor - he drove himself to Los Angeles. Armed with a made-up resume, he started 'sneaking thru the gates' of the major studios -- a feat that was much easier then than it is now. He quickly came to realize that if you don't know anyone in the business, you need REAL credits -- so he began volunteering on various film productions. His first big break came when he landed a paying job at the National Geographic Specials in 1987. And just a few years later, at the age of 26, he became Hollywood's youngest supervising sound editor and found himself not only supervising a team of editors but also directing A-list talent on the ADR stage - including Robert Duvall, Viggo Mortenson, Jon Voight, Amanda Plummer, Peter Fonda and TV's James Garner.
Dave's directing credits include documentaries, commercials, a BTS mini-feature, music videos, and a handful of promotional films. "I was 17 when I started shooting film. Nobody could rip that Super-8 film camera out of my hands - I drove my family and friends crazy. But I know now that by screwing around for so many hours with that camera, I was internalizing dynamic camera work & composition, and learning the capabilities and limitations of stock and lenses. I also discovered that the 'language of film' is entirely natural to me, and I started figuring out how to tell stories with a camera".
Dave's directing credits include docs, commercials, and the upcoming "Two State Devil" with Eric Roberts. "Guys Night" (shooting fall 2025) will be his first drama dealing with the subject of divorce. I grew up with divorced adults all around me; parents, grandparents, even my uncle, who was a 3-timer. And later in life, I became a divorced man - so I feel fairly qualified to help bring this heartwarming story to the screen."
When not prepping for a feature shoot, Dave operates Post in the Woods, his Los Angeles-based post-house geared specifically for the indie filmmaking community. "We are a one-stop shop for professional film finishing services. I love working one-on-one with talented new up-and-coming directors and producers. It essentially allows me to make movies every day."
